Dear Pam,

My wife Gloria, I’m her husband, have always been big fans of yours. Right since you first appeared on Opportunity Knocks I said to Gloria that lass will go far. My favourite of all your poems must be ‘I wish I’d look after me teeth’- its just so funny. We even managed to see you once on tour as well. Anyway, I digress

My reason for writing is that recently our faithful old dog Rambo passed away and as part of our ‘coping’ mechanism we sat down over several nights and many cups of cocoa and wrote the attached. We are still at a loss as to whether it should be a poem or a song but maybe you could advise. If it was to be a song we were thinking maybe Chris de Burgh would be the sort of person who could do justice to our lyrics.

We appreciate that you are extremely busy but could we ask you to run your expert eye, and the other one too ha ha, over this and let us know what you think. Any advice would be very helpful.

Anyway Pam I will look forward to your reply and all I can say is thank you and ‘I’m glad I looked after my teeth’.

Yours sincerely

John J Marley

PS could you please send me a signed photograph of yourself.  Here’s one of our lovely Rambo.

Rambo

Rambo RIP

Oh Rambo you were our dog

Kinda cuddly, brown like a log

Friends with almost all

Loved to play with your ball

Chorus

Rambo oh Rambo

Man and woman’s best friend

Your sad little life

Has come to an end

Oh Rambo you were our dog

That day you fell in the bog

You liked chasing vans

And biting the postman

Oh Rambo you were our dog

Once you got lost in the fog

Helped us find home

And chewed on a big bone

Oh Rambo you were our dog

Everyone looked at you agog

You looked rather strange

Must have been the mange

Oh Rambo you were our dog
