Dear Mr Botteley

My wife Gloria, I’m her husband, are so excited that The Opera House is presenting ‘Cats’ next year. It is without doubt our most favourite play ever. We have seen it 238 times now. We have an extensive collection of ‘Cats’ memorabilia including, believe it or not, a lock of Elaine Paige’s hair.  She was, I must say, less than amused when Gloria leapt from the crowd and snipped it off but with a bit of coaxing we managed to avoid a court case.

What I wanted to check was, is there going to be a fancy dress night during the run? You see Gloria and I have gone to considerable expense and effort to make costumes to dress up in. Gloria dresses as Bombalurina and I of course am Mr Mistoffelees. It would be such fun to come dressed in our outfits. We would obviously feel more comfortable if others were coming dressed in similar garb but we would still be happy to come even if others weren’t dressing up.

I would promise to keep Gloria under control. I learned my lesson after a rather embarrassing experience in London.  During ‘Memories’ Gloria managed to get on stage and pretended to chase an imaginary mouse. Trevor Nunn had to come on and physically remove her. Again we avoided the courts with some coaxing and a donation to the Cats Protection League. I would be happy in saying that the worst that might happen is that she tries to lick my bottom during the interval but that usually gets a good laugh.

I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what dates would be suitable for us to attend. By the way we normally bring a large scratching post to keep Gloria out of mischief and a large litter tray that could stay in the foyer. Don’t worry its been ages since we have used it.  If we don’t hear from you we will assume that it will be ok to come any night.

Yours Sincerely

John J Marley
